MALE VOICE 1: Welcome to the AAAASF accreditation program. In the next several minutes, we’ll give you a quick overview on how to prepare your facility for accreditation. One of the first questions we’re often asked is, why obtain accreditation at all? The answer to that is really quite simple: achieving accreditation demonstrates to prospective patients, the medical community, state legislators, and the public at large that the facility has met nationally-recognized standards to ensure patients’ safety and quality care. AAAASF accreditation is considered to be the gold standard in accreditation, and our mission has always been patient safety first.

Another question that we’re often asked is, why should I choose AAAASF accreditation? The answer is best expressed by the old saying: the devil is in the details. The AAAASF program is, by far, the most streamlined, cost-effective, and user-friendly program available today. We will never inundate you with reams of paperwork or expect you to complete a difficult process by yourself.

When you contact the AAAASF office, you will speak directly with an accreditation specialist, trained to help you. Once you make the decision to apply, an accreditation specialist will be assigned to your application to assist you every step of the way. This ensures continuity throughout the entire process. No other organization matches our personalized service before, during, and after accreditation.

The inspection process is just as user-friendly. We specifically designed our program to be educational, not punitive, and the inspector is trained to perform a thorough, non-biased inspection of the entire facility. Wherever possible, the inspector will assist the facility to correct minor deficiencies while the inspection is taking place. With AAAASF, accreditation is never a painful process.

To help you gain a better understanding of what to expect, let’s take a quick overview from start to finish. There are four parts to the accreditation process, and a pre-application option to consider, with AAAASF there to assist you every step of the way.

Let’s start with the optional pre-application process. AAAASF has developed this option so key standards can be reviewed to determine if your facility meets certain basic requirements prior to beginning the application process. This step is not required; however, many find it very helpful in streamlining the entire process.

Part one is the application process. In this step, you fill out the application and submit various documents, such as a copy of the physician’s medical license, a floor plan of the facility, and random case peer reviews.

Part two is where you prepare for accreditation. This is an open-book test. Here, you receive the actual AAAASF standards and checklist booklet that the inspector uses. Your facilities director or physician can go over each and every aspect so there are no surprises when inspection time arrives. Of course, your accreditation specialist and the AAAASF staff are always right there to assist you with any questions you may have.

Part three is the on-site inspection of your facility. In this step, the inspector evaluates your facility and conducts an exit interview with facility staff. Facilities with no deficiencies are finished, and the inspector will submit his report. If any deficiencies are found, the inspector will make recommendations for correction.

Part four is the post-inspection process. For facilities that have no deficiencies, a certificate of accreditation is issued. If any deficiencies are noted, a statement of deficiency will be sent to the facility director, with a letter of instruction on how to submit corrections.

Well, as you can see, this is an uncomplicated process, and an accreditation specialist is always there to answer any questions you may have. A time line for accreditation and other useful information is available on our Web site. Please feel free to take a look at it and get acquainted with us.
